Stan and his wife Debbie are the owners of Trattoria Toscano in Lakeway and Siena Ristorante at 360 and 2222.  They are long time veterans of the Austin restaurant scene, having moved from New England to Austin in 1984.  Growing up in the Northeast, they were surrounded by many small family run Italian Restaurants and Pizzerias, inspiration for the original Brick Oven Restaurant downtown at 12th and Red River.  Five years later they opened a second Brick Oven on Jolleyville Road, still going strong in Northwest Austin with the recent addition of Baretto next door.

After visits to the warm waters of the Caribbean, their next venture was Gilligan’s Seafood and Oyster Bar, remembered by many for it’s eleven year run at Fourth and Colorado.  Always fond of travel and seeking to expand their knowledge base, they began a series of trips to Europe and Italy.  Falling in love with Tuscany, Stan designed and built Siena in 1999, modeled after the beautiful stone buildings in the Italian countryside.  Siena provides a truly authentic Tuscan dining experience and has repeatedly been voted most romantic restaurant in Austin.

In 2016, Trattoria Toscano opened in the Oaks at Lakeway, adjacent to the HEB market.  In Italy, a trattoria is a casual family owned local restaurant where neighbors gather regularly to tell stories and to share food and drink.  It is this small town connection to the local community that Stan and Debbie enjoyed both in New England and in Italy and now in Lakeway.  While maintaining its Tuscan roots, Trattoria Toscano offers a more casual menu including many “Americanized” dishes popular in the States and a vibrant bar scene with a great happy hour.

Beyond the restaurants, Stan and Debbie have traveled to all 50 states, return regularly to Italy and to a second home in Taos, NM.  In recent years, they have had boats on the East Coast and have sailed extensively throughout New England, the Bahamas and many points between.  Found most days at Toscano, Stan and Debbie enjoy meeting others who share their passion for food, wine, life and travel.

Stan and Deb recently brought their niece Cat back into the fold. After living with them from the age of 16, working at numerous locations of all restaurants, and attending UT, she also embarked on global travels. Taking after the family, she ended up eager to call Austin home once again. She now manages Toscano regularly and is involved in many Austin and Lakeway groups.

Please ask for us! We are determined to make your visit to Toscano one to rave about.
